Techies Who Teach Win Big!

This fall, a team of five middle school students participated in a contest sponsored by RNESU. Their task was to develop a Smartboard presentation on the topic of Internet Safety. Our team developed a multimedia presentation informing their classmates about the dangers of cyber-bullying. Their hard work resulted in a first place win and gained a Smartboard for the school!

MEDALLION QUALITY SCHOOL

The Public School Medallion Award was established by the Vermont Business Roundtable in 1993 to encourage excellence in education in Vermont. It continued through 2005. Starting in 1999, the Vermont Business Roundtable linked the criteria and selection process for its annual medallion school award to school assessment. Barstow was acknowledged for its exemplary performance for the five consecutive years prior to the cessation of this award in 2005 with the implementation of the New England Common Assessment Program (NECAPs).

Our principal, Karen Prescott, received the Vermont Elementary Principal of the Year!

  • Staff work in collaborative teams and support the development of a professional learning community;

  • Leadership provides support for teachers to continue to learn, to inspire curiosity and to facilitate student learning;

  • Continuous curriculum and teaching practices support improved student performance which is measured through authentic and continuous methods of assessment;

  • School board and administration support small class sizes where students are challenged and motivated in a positive, supportive, safe and orderly learning environment;

This area is well known for its scenic beauty and year around recreational offerings. Swimming, boating, and hiking are popular in the summer while the winter offers downhill and cross country skiing, snowmobiling and ice skating. In the autumn people visit from around the world to view Vermont's brilliant foliage. Springtime brings "sugaring season" when maple sap is boiled down to make maple syrup.
